Mrityunjaya Vidya Peetha (MVP), located in Haunsbhavi, Hirekerur Taluk, Haveri District, Karnataka, India, was founded 100 years ago with a mission to uplift society through quality education. Our journey began with a purpose: to educate and empower students, shaping them into individuals who lead with integrity and contribute meaningfully to society.

Over the years, MVP has grown into a trusted institution, guiding students across Primary Education, Secondary Education, Pre-University Courses, Undergraduate Programs, and Diploma Programs. Proudly celebrating a century of dedicated service to education and community development, MVP stands as a pillar of educational excellence.

In the heart of Karnataka, nestled amidst the serene Western Ghats, lies Haunsbhavi village, a place of historical significance and educational excellence. For over 106 glorious years, Mrityunjaya Vidya Peetha has stood as a beacon of hope and transformation, shaping young minds and uplifting communities through the power of education.

Founded in 1918 as the Veerashaiva Vidyavardhak Sangha with a humble Anglo-Vernacular School has grown into a nationally recognized institution. Renamed Mrityunjaya Vidya Peetha in 1935, in honor of spiritual leader and visionary Mahatapasvi Sree Mrityunjaya Appa, the institution has remained true to its noble mission:

“To educate and uplift the underprivileged without discrimination of caste, creed, or religion, and to raise their standard of living.”


A Glorious Timeline of Achievements:

  • 1918: Veerashaiva Vidyavardhak Sangha was founded with an Anglo-Vernacular School to bring education to rural communities.

  • 1923: The institution launched the Sri Shivayogeeshwar Prasada Nilaya, a hostel to support students traveling from distant places. This facility became an integral part of the campus, making Haunsbhavi famous as ‘Dakshinada Kashi’ for its dedication to education and spiritual growth.

  • 1935: Renamed as Mrityunjaya Vidya Peetha to honor Sree Mrityunjaya Appa.

  • 1940–1960: Produced notable freedom fighters and leaders, including:
     –     Sri T.R. Neshvi, a freedom fighter who later served as an MP and Parliamentary Secretary.
    –     Sri K.F. Patil, who became a minister in the Bombay-Karnataka Government.
    –     Sri Mylar Mahadevappa, a close associate of Mahatma Gandhi, who became a martyr for India’s independence. 

For over a century, the Mrityunjaya Vidya Peetha has remained steadfast in its mission, shaping leaders and contributing to societal progress through education. The guiding principle of Mrityunjaya Vidya Peetha has always been: 
“A Little for Ourselves – Everything for Society.”


Centenary Vision: Projects for a Brighter Tomorrow

To celebrate the remarkable 106-year journey of Mrityunjaya Vidya Peetha, we are embarking on several ambitious projects that aim to uplift the institution and provide a better learning environment for future generations.

  1. Centenary Memorial Head Office Building – A grand new structure symbolizing the institution’s legacy.

  2. Modern Building for Durgad High School – A fresh start for a school that has shaped countless young minds since 1925.

  3. State-of-the-Art Auditorium – A venue for educational conferences, cultural events, and workshops.

  4. Upgraded Playground – Providing modern sports facilities to nurture talent for state and national competitions.

  5. New Boarding Facility – Offering a safe, supportive and nurturing environment for underprivileged rural students.

  6. Enhanced Campus Facilities – Improved toilets, canteen services, and safety systems to ensure comfort and security for all students.
